This 2018 release is the latest addition to the Tomatin Distillery’s smoky Cu Bocan range. It is limited to just 1,400 bottles of whisky that was drawn from casks that had previously housed heavily peated Islay spirit. The expression, named after the hound that is said to have haunted the Highlands for years, brings wintery notes of heather, fresh soil, windswept grass, freshly cut oak and gentle hints of tropical fruits. These are all backed up by that peat smoke that comes in on the palate, joined by a slight saltiness and sweet treacle. It’s a fantastic dram that is well rounded and warming with plenty to offer for the beginner and the trained nose. A superb limited release!
