This absolutely beautiful new release from indie bottler, The Maltman, was distilled at a very famous, ‘unknown’ Speyside distillery in 1982 and laid to mature in a top quality Pedro Ximenez cask before being bottled some 38 years later, in 2020. The liquid is a distinct dark sherry colour and it brings a delicious array of rich, fruity and oaky notes to the table that combine superbly with a mixture of sweet and savoury spices that build in the background. The whisky comes packaged in a stunning bottle, with a label that features an artistic, rather haunting depiction of the Grim Reaper.
While this bottle is from an unknown distillery, if you look carefully at what the Reaper is holding in his left hand, there is a huge clue as to which legendary Speyside distillery this brilliant expression was produced at. With only 172 bottles produced, it’s collectable and unique to say the least!
