Step into the world of Secret Island 2017 “Robo Grendizer” single malt Scotch whisky selected by Masashi Gotoh, Carsten Ehrlich and Hideo Yamaoka. Distilled in November 2017 by distillery called the Very Young Islay, left to mature in hogshead casks for four years, and bottled in November 2021 at a strength of 53.3%. The distillery is a single malt distillery in the southern region of the island of Islay, which name is kept confidential.
The UFO Robo Grendizer, which was modeled for Go Nagai’s original work on the whisky specialty Whiskey Mew, served as the inspiration for this bottle. Also known as Grandizer, Goldrake, and Goldorak, is a Japanese animated television series and manga.
The scent of citrus opens up in this bottle, followed subsequently by a hint of peat smoke and subtle cinnamon spice. Tastes sweet and fruity, with notes of tropical fruit and apples on the palate. This finely refined whisky offers a fruitiness you wouldn’t expect from a malt from the south coast of Islay, along with a delightful smokiness and a mild peaty finish that are distinctive of the island. Concluding in a house-style finish that is earthy and leathery, perfectly aged for four years.
