Lagavulin, the paragon of Islay whisky artistry, proudly offers Lagavulin 1991 Double Matured, an exclusive vintage released following an extraordinary 16 year maturation period. This masterpiece comes from the limited Classic Malts Selection, strengthening Lagavulin’s legendary standing in the whisky industry.
This magnificent Islay single malt, part of the Classic Malts Selection from the Islay legend Lagavulin, was double matured in European Pedro Ximenez Sherry oak barrels for up to six months after it was produced in 1991. These provide a syrupy quality and additional fruit, like raisins and dried fruits, to the whisky. 43% alcohol strength of the unique Lagavulin Islay single malt scotch whisky was released in 2007.
The richest peat taste of any malt whisky from this wild island coast, this is the quintessential Islay Malt, untamed and uncompromising. The sun-dried grapes from Pedro Ximenez cask wood, where this special edition has been double matured, have delicate overtones that wonderfully balance the wine’s dry, complex character with distinctive notes of sea spray. It’s a deep, peaty malt with a hint of sweetness as the result. It is a beautiful whisky with a very good rating, which may come as no surprise.
Flavors of sea wind, shells, orange marmalade, beef bouillon, peat, fine rubber, tar, tobacco, and tea are all wonderfully present in this full-bodied, golden whisky. Sweet tobacco, liquorice, dirt, teas, roots, oranges, peat, smoked fish, and salt are all detectable on the taste. Concluding with the longest finish ever at only 43%, it’s extremely liquoricy.
A lovely vintage bottle for whisky collectors, enthusiasts, and aficionados that includes excellent Lagavulin Islay single malt Scotch whisky, which is hard to get these days.
