The Highland Park The Dark & The Light Series told the story of the contrasting seasons on Orkney, in the furthest north reaches of Scotland. The island experiences long, dark winter with very little light, while in the summer the days are long and the dark of night is just a few hours long. The effects that these conditions have on the whisky are intriguing and something that Highland Park thought were worth highlighting.
The Light bottling was created to honour the summer solstice, the longest night of the year. It was matured in American oak casks and it brings sweet and fruity flavours to the table that combine well with that delicious Highland Park spirit. Only 28,000 bottles were released at 52.9%.
The Dark bottling was matured in the finest sherry casks, resulting in a rich and fruity full-bodied expression. Notes of smoky peat linger in the background and subtle spices come through to warm you from head to toe. As with The Light expression, only 28,000 bottles were released at 52.9%.
