The Glenrothes 1978, almost certainly the last batch of Glenrothes’ 70’s. He combines a small number of casks, hand-selected and blended by whisky master John Ramsay, at the time when the casks are at their ripeness and peak. The last batch of 1978 vintage was released in 1999 and sold out in a short time. Because of Glenrothes’ customary style, in 1999 John Ramsay, a whisky master, chose only casks that were at their peak of maturity.
This time, the second bottling is the use of barrels that were not ripe in 1999. Because 60-80% of the flavor of the whisky itself comes from the taste of the oak barrel, the length of soaking time can determine the flavor of the whisky. As a result, this 1978 single malt whisky has a slightly different flavor and texture than the first batch shipped in 1999, without losing the original distillery character.
