Here we have a brand new limited edition expression from Speyside’s famous Glenlivet Distillery. The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Illicit Still was created to honour the distillery’s founder, George Smith, who illegally distilled whisky in hand-crafted copper stills in a hidden bothy near the Glenlivet Valley. He would smuggle his whisky across the Scottish Highlands to avoid paying the dreaded exciseman and get it safely into the hands of whisky-lovers up and down the country. Today, Glenlivet is one of the World’s most popular distilleries and it’s all thanks to the early, dangerous endeavours of the legendary George Smith.
This incredible new expression honours this icon of Scottish whisky in style. Matured for a whole 12 years, it brings elegant notes of tropical fruits, buttery toast and candied peels on the nose, before dried fruits, rich oak and gentle cinnamon arrive on the palate. The finish is as smooth and creamy as you will find anywhere, in typical Glenlivet fashion. It’s a superb whisky from one of Scotland’s best distilleries and is highly limited in numbers.
